Oh happy day. I've discovered Server Side Includes. As you may or may not know, this will make changing the column on the right side of this page much easier. Instead of editing every page on this site when I decide to read a new book, I can just edit one file. This will most likely become irrelevant when I climb up out of the dark ages and start using CSS for layout instead of these tables.

If you've come for the Homeworld2 shadow/noshadow comparison screenshots, click the Pics link on the left. They are resampled to 800x600 but the originals were 1280x960 and 6xAA (Yes, 6x). For reference, I'm running a P4 2.8C, 1024MB, ATI AIW 9800pro, Cat 4.3, nothing's OC'd. These latest Cats from ATI are a mixed bag as far as H2 is concerned. It's really amazing that you can get 105fps w/o shadows at 6xAA. (Used to be 60-70 at only 2xAA) At the same time is unacceptable that it drops to 35 when you turn shadows on. I did the same thing at 2xAA and the numbers were 135 w/o shadows and 40 w/shadows.

I've added the "READ, LISTEN, WATCH" column on the right. It's not an advertisement; it's just a representation of my personal tastes. They will change infrequently; the "READ" column most often. I may add a "PLAY" column for video games but that would change often and most games (whether deserving or not) get enough press as it is. I'll probably just point out good games in my posts that I don't think get enough exposure. (Like so.)

Ok, new page format. I spent some actual time on this one and I think it's much improved over the old style. But it's still far from permanent. At the very least the address will change. Anyway, I don't know how often I'll update; we'll just have to see.

Some excellent satellite imagery of the Southern California Fires may be found here. The images are not large, but there is a link to a high-resolution version that's really worth the 5 minute (or so) download for you dial up users.

Click here for pictures of what it looked like outside my apartment during the fire.

Click here for the local paper's story on the fire

Here is a link to some pictures I took of the actual fire (one of the fires anyway). There's a link below each picture that will take you to the next one.
